Exploring Communication

You've just explored a problem, examining both how you might communicate about it, and how mathematical representation influences that communication. Now we'd like you to write about your own classroom practice. As you make your journal entries keep the material you've just seen and read in mind as context.

Questions to write and reflect about:
  • In what ways can the representation of a problem or solution affect communication about it?
  • You may have found one representation of the problem––visual or tabular––easier to understand. You may also have found solving the problem yourself easier than explaining it on the phone. How would you respond to these differences in your students?
Three ways to write and reflect:
  • Use pen and paper.
  • Use a word processor.
  • Use the form below.
Be sure to save what you have written before you navigate out of the journal section.


Your work will be displayed in a printer-friendly format to enable you to print.
